Who We Are...The Halesowen Scout Band are a marching band from the West Midlands (England). We were formed in 1975 as a district Scout band, which means that our members are drawn up from different Scout groups throughout the Halesowen district. The Halesowen Scout district includes Hasbury, 1st Halesowen, Coombes Wood, Lapal, Hill and Cakemore, Romsley, Cradley and others.
We play an important role in the community of Halesowen and surrounding areas which includes leading parades on Remembrance Sunday, St George's Day, Guides Thinking Day, opening of the Christmas lights, and various fetes and carnivals throughout the year.
We are members of an organisation called TYMBA (Traditional Youth Marching Band Association), and compete in the National Class. We attend competitions throughout the year which are organised by other members of TYMBA (we also host a TYMBA contest ourselves at the Earls High School, Halesowen). At these contests (usually held at schools), we perform our contest routine which consists of a marching display while playing music. We compete against other bands who are members of TYMBA and we are judged strictly by TYMBA adjudicators who consist mainly of ex-servicemen. The members of TYMBA attend the final contest at the end of the year which is held by TYMBA itself, and is a very prestigious event.
Over the past few years, we have performed at some exciting venues which include France, Alton Towers, Wembley Stadium and Arena, The Black Country Living Museum, and at the Birmingham International Tattoo alongside the Grenadier Guards. Alton Towers and The Black Country Museum are regular bookings for the band, and we attend them every year. Recently, our percussion section were invited to take part and play in the National St George's Day Service at Windsor Castle.
